THE CHATEAU DE LA CROIX CHEMIN
A HEART OF GRANITE WITH A ROMANTIC CHARM
The four centuries Château de La Croix Chemin stands amidst a green and pastoral setting, in the very heart of romantic Brittany, in the land of Chateaubriand and famous French aristocrat letter-writer Comtesse de Sévigné.
Since 1690, The Château de La Croix Chemin has been a dwelling place for Viscounts and Viscountesses, Counts and Countesses and some other noble families from Brittany. Ideally located in the small village of Saint-Léger-des-Prés in the Ille-et-Villaine region, near Rennes and Saint-Malo, between shore and sea, the Château is surrounded by a 4 hectares park.
The Château de La Croix Chemin is ideally located within a short distance of some vibrant cities such as Saint-Malo, Cancale, Le Mont-Saint-Michel, Fougères, Dinan, Dinard, Dol de Bretagne, Vitré, Rennes, and many other amazing locations for you to discover. The Château is also at only 8 kms from the eye-catching Château de Combourg once inhabited by François-René de Chateaubriand, and where he wrote his ""Mémoires d'Outre-Tombe"" (""Memoirs from beyond the Grave"")
Come and spend a moment out of time in this authentic and prestigious Château. The place was abandoned for nearly 15 years, but the Château managed to keep its cachet intact. The new owners have carried out since January 2014 a major renovation of the park, the Château and its outbuildings, retaining the spirit and essence of Breton architecture. It was a challenging adventure since the Château was experiencing the ravages of time.
The current name of the Château was suggested by the name of the place where the property is located : La Croix Chemin. The place is marked with a cross (Croix) in the main courtyard, next to the first well and facing the Château. According to experts, this granite cross has been set up since the 17thcentury, and has never been moved since.
